"Should it be your priority to engage the visitor in your web site so that they do not have a second to think of moving on? Yes of course it should, and at many points Yahoo is like this. [It] becomes intensely clear why Yahoo is the most visited web site in the World today and will continue to be in the near future. Yahoo is stickier than almost every other site [as] it focuses on giving its visitors what they want -- Speed and Content in equal proportions."

In very general terms, I see the design and development of a Web site, as combining the following three skill sets, or separate areas of expertise:

  1. Graphic / Multimedia Designer
    • Overall site layout including typography, graphics, and any animations or audio.
    • Site "Look and Feel", innovative "something truly Magical" designs, . . .
    • How users interact with the site, branding and marketing considerations, . . .
  2. Content Writer / Editor
    • Produces, refines, and edits the site content.
    • Content others provide put into language suitable for the intended audience.
    • Terms used, and dispersion of terms through the content, are appropriate for search engine indexing; . . .
  3. Technical Implementer / Web Coder
    • Provides very detailed "How to" and "What is possible" expertise.
    • Knowledgeable in accessibility issues, and many methods for implementing Web content.
    • Optimizes sites for loading performance and (standards based) multi-browser compatibility.

The above article, by User Interface Engineering, helps to explain why site improvement services, like the services that I offer, can provide real value to an existing Website.

As this site demonstrates, I am extremely capable at basic Web design work, and excel at providing the services of a Technical Implementer. So if you have a good idea of what you want for a Website-- that can be shown by anything from an existing site, to ideas sketched out on paper-- and you know what you want published on the Web (the content), then I would appreciate the opportunity to sit down for a coffee or three, to determine what I can offer to meet your specific needs.
