. . . the Iron Dragon conquest of EuroRails

    This game variation is intended as a marathon (crayon) rails game, for players already experienced with playing both EuroRails and Iron Dragon. And would also be very suited to playing in pairs. Where one member of each team handles all play on the Iron Dragon board, and the other member of each team handles the play on the EuroRails board. Thus accommodating up to 12 players at a single game.

• Iron Dragon:
  
  • GP (Gold Pieces), Forman and Iron Dragon trains stay with the Iron Dragon realm (game).
  • Iron Dragon load/destination cards and load counters go back into the Iron Dragon piles.
  • All payments within Iron Dragon must be made using GP.
  • The game starts out on this board.
• EuroRails:
  
  • EuroRails trains stay in the EuroRails realm (game).
  • EuroRails money (million ECU bills), load/destination cards and load counters go back into the EuroRails piles.
    • If both games use the same color of plastic load chips, then place small stickers on the back of one set of them.
  • All payments within EuroRails must be made using ECU.
  • Game play moves into this board, while continuing to play in Iron Dragon.
• The Wee Foke are crafty people, so ships operate in both realms. (Use a single pile of card for all drawing of ships.)
  • It is suggested that two "blank" cards be used to create two additional Wee Foke Forman, or else use no Wee Foke Foremen.
  • Each player may have only one Iron Dragon ship in play at a time. ('cause the Wee Foke union says so.)
  • Iron Dragon ships can only be used in the EuroRails realm for a "cross over" between realms.
    • With EuroRails having no water movement posts marked on the map, the determined distance is instead counted off (counted down) on paper.
• Order of play for each player is: Iron Dragon train and board play, cross-over ship play (if any), then EuroRails train and board play (if any).
• Only EAGLEHAWK, KOLA and BLUEFELD can exchange ECU and GP (for use between the two realms).
  • The exchange rate is 1 million ECU to 1 GP.
  • Any exchange occurs after all load drop-off's and/or pick-up's, after any building and train upgrades, but before the payment of any "waiting fee".
  • It is suggested that any ECU in Iron Dragon, or on a cross-over ship, be tracked as an amount written down on a something about the size of a business card. And that only GP in Iron Dragon, or ECU in EuroRails be out in front of the players as bills.
  • ECU sent on a cross-over ship are not "in" EuroRails or Iron Dragon until the player's train meets the ship at the port. (That is when the player can use the money, or take it to be exchanged.)
• WIKKEDDE is the only place that sells one way cross-over spells.
  • These must be picked up, just like a load, but do not take up a load space on the train.
    • It is suggested that pennies, or something else, be used for cross-over spell counters.
    • One of these can be lost by "loose a load" only if there is no other load on the train or (Iron Dragon) ship.
  • Each such spell costs 10GP, and each player can buy or own as many of these spells as he or she wishes.
• Loads in both games using the same symbol are the same thing.
  • Many loads in these two games do use the same symbol.
  • Loads picked up in one realm, and delivered in the other, are worth double the listed payoff. (Rare vintage, of unusual quality, etc..)

Cross-over from Iron Dragon to EuroRails:

• The train meeting a ship at port, must have a cross-over spell on it.
• Declare a "cross-over" while leaving a port (not while at sea).
• Declare which "water corner" you will sail off of. (West, North or East.)
• Obtain a ship, by normal Iron Dragon rules.
  • The spell is immediately used on the ship the player chooses to sail away on.
• The cross-over ship sails without a train on it.
  • The turn of train movement does still end at the port.
  • The player's "Representative" is onboard the ship.
  • Any ECU being sent to the EuroRails realm must be on the ship.
    • This money cannot be "lost" due to a disaster.
  • One or more "extra" cross-over spells can also be sent with the ship.
• If taking a single load on the cross-over ship, it takes a full extra turn to load the cargo from the train cars, directly onto the ship.
• On the turn that the ship will sail off the board corner, the player must declare which EuroRails ferry port is the destination. (The spell is now "fully activated".)
• Next turn, roll 3D6 for how many "water movement posts" the ship must travel, before the ship makes port. Then immediately start counting down that number, at the ship's movement rate per turn.
  • The ship is subject to "ferry disasters" when 3 or less "water movement posts" from the destination port.
  • The ship cannot stop moving, once off the Iron Dragon board, to try and avoid such a disaster.
• The ferry port landing is the end of the cross-ship turn, and if a train is waiting to meet the ship, it cannot move away from the ferry port during the same turn in which the ship lands.
• If a train is not waiting to meet the ship, then following the turn on which the ship landed, every full turn during which no train arrives at the ferry port, incurs a 1 million ECU "waiting charge".
  • So there would be no "waiting charge" for either the first turn landing on EuroRails (see below), or a train arriving on the turn following a ship landing.
  • Any player that cannot pay this charge, forfeits whatever was being sent across on the ship. (Load and/or cross-over spells.)
• If there is a load on the ship, it also takes a full extra turn to unload this back onto rail cars.
  • Sending a load back to Iron Dragon is a cross-over from EuroRails to Iron Dragon. Which must be handled totally separate (during a different turn, using another ship) from the cross-over to EuroRails.
• The ship sails away at the end of either the turn the player's train is at the ferry port to meet it, or the extra turn to unload cargo has finished.
• Train movement ends with arriving at a ferry port. And the turn moving away from a port is still at half movement-- whether the train takes the ferry (on the turn after finishing the cross-over) or not.

First EuroRails Landfall (getting started in EuroRails):

• On the turn a player arrives at a ferry dock for the first time in EuroRails, the player gets 3 load/destination cards, then must finish that turn by spending 10 million ECU for a basic Freight Train.
  • Extra money can not be spent to directly purchase any of the upgraded trains, with all train upgrades per the normal EuroRails rules.
• On the first turn after first making EuroRails landfall, the player must build track, starting from a major city to (either end of) the ferry line he or she landed at.
  • The 20 million ECU per turn limit applies to this.
• All turns in EuroRails after that are normal play turns. (Unless doing a cross-over back to Iron Dragon, per the below.)

Cross-over from EuroRails to Iron Dragon:

• The train arriving at a ferry port, must have a cross-over spell on it, and must declare doing a "cross-over" instead of taking a ferry.
  • The train can still take the ferry, on the turn following the (Iron Dragon) ship leaving.
  • Train movement still ends at the ferry port, and the turn away from either ferry line port is also at half movement-- whether the ferry is taken or not.
• Obtain a ship, by normal Iron Dragon rules.
  • The spell is immediately used on the ship the player chooses to sail away on.
• The cross-over ship sails without a train on it.
  • The player's "Representative" is onboard the ship.
  • Any ECU being sent to the Iron Dragon realm must be on the ship.
    • This money cannot be "lost" due to a disaster.
  • One or more "extra" cross-over spells can also be sent with the ship.
• If taking a single load on the cross-over ship, it takes a full extra turn to load the cargo from the train cars, directly onto the ship.
• Next turn, roll 3D6 for how many "water movement posts" the ship must travel, before being back in the Iron Dragon realm. Then immediately start counting down that number, at the ship's movement rate per turn.
  • The ship is subject to "ferry disasters" while still 3 or less "water movement posts" from the ferry port. (The spell is then "fully activated".)
• On the turn that the ship will exceed the rolled distance, the player must declare which Iron Dragon "water corner" (West, North or East) is the destination.
• On the following turn, the ship is on the Iron Dragon board, at a water post right next to the declared board corner.
• If a train is not already waiting at the port where the ship lands, then following the turn on which the ship landed, every full turn during which no train arrives at the port incurs a 1 GP "waiting charge".
  • So there would be no "waiting charge" for a train arriving on the turn following a ship landing.
  • Any player that cannot pay this charge, forfeits whatever was being sent across on the ship. (Load and/or cross-over spells.)
• If there is a load on the ship, it also takes a full extra turn to unload this back onto rail cars.
  • Sending a load back to EuroRails is a cross-over from Iron Dragon to EuroRails. Which must be handled totally separate (during a different turn, using another ship) from the cross-over to Iron Dragon.
• The ship sails away at the end of either the turn the player's train is at the port to meet it, or the extra turn to unload cargo has finished.
