The Flare Cards

    These images are from the Flare Cards file that goes with the Framingham, MA Group Powers. (See the Cosmic Encounters WWW Index.) The format of these cards was modified as follows:

• Each 9 card page saved as a MONO .PNG file, using Ghostscript.
• Each resulting page then loaded into Photo Deluxe Home Edition.
  • Image changed from white print on black, to black on white.
  • Each card then cut from the page, and saved as a .EPS image.
• Each .EPS image then loaded back into Ghostscript, to again be saved as a MONO .PNG file.

    MONO .PNG is not the nicest image file format because:

• Some programs, like PhotoDeluxe, read the images in reversed.
  • e.g. white on black, instead of black on white.
  • This is corrected by the program's "Negative" or "Inverse" function.
• Graphics programs seem to load these in at 72dpi-- not the actual 300dpi of the images.
  • Which results in the image being printed out much too large.
• Windows GIMP does load these images correctly.
  • Set "Image Mode" to "RGB", to get printed out correctly.
• To correct this with (Windows 98) Microsoft Photo Editor:
  • Right click on the Image for the game card.
  • Select Properties from the pop-up menu.
  • Then simply change the listed dpi from 72 to 300.
• I have found many "Free" graphics programs do not permit setting the DPI for an image.
  • Ultimate FX works by setting the printout size to exactly 2.25 by 3.5 inches.

    However, at less than 10K per card (average), it is a file format which enables me to post all 348 2.25"x3.5", 300dpi Flare Card images to my Web site.
